My Fossilized Raptor Mount

Posted December 8th, 2010 by Miss Mediocre

I know I already posted today, twice in fact, but I wanted to share this! I was super lucky (perhaps due to my Lucky Cake?) and got the Fossilized Raptor Mount from Archaeology! It’s a rare and random relic that comes up for you to solve under the “Fossils” section, and takes 100 fossil fragments to solve. It took me a long time to find all the fragments, as the fossils dig sites are fairly rare (on the Eastern Kingdoms anyway).

I also got the “I Had It In My Hand” achievement for solving a rare relic, which rewards the title “Assistant Professor” and got to level 82 at the same time! It was magical, lol. Now to get the Fossillized Raptor Hatchling…

Congratulations you are indeed very lucky!!!!!

    I am jealous.

I got the fossilized hatchling pet yesterday for the achievement, and this morning I put together a clockwork gnome pet — it’s a dwarven relic, and can use up to three, I think it was, keystones in completing it.

I run around doing archeology wearing my weather-beaten fishing hat. You have any idea where I could find a weapon that looks like a whip?

  3. Miss Mediocre

    Hehe, ty Crowelf :)

  4. Miss Mediocre

Indy : I’m a few fragments off both of those pets, hoping to get them soon! :) I don’t know off hand of any weapon that looks like a whip in game… but that would be amazing if you could find one, especially if your toon shares your commenting name! :)

Wow! I need some cake… I just dont have that kind of luck! However, I DO have the kind of luck that let me get to 85 already! Doing it on a druid felt like cheating. Never had to stop. Well, except to sleep. Lol.

Gratsumahlations on the awesome pet! I need to start my Arch soon.

  6. Rathay

    Whaaat?
That cake must truly be lucky. Lol I don’t even know what to say.

  7. Phill

so very cool…there is so much to do and so little time…I have not even tried out the new archaeology…I guess I’ll be trying it out this weekend

  8. Indy

BTW, I ended up working on the fossilized raptor; left off last night with three fossil fragments to go! I’ve found that Archeology is a viable means of leveling, and has allowed me to avoid dealing with dense-packed idiots in the new zones at launch.

  9. Miss Mediocre

Kreigor : Gratsumahlations on 85! :) What spec of druid did you level as?

  10. Miss Mediocre

Rathay : Next time I have the mats I’ll bake you one of your own for your new Worgen! I can’t guarantee it will be lucky, I don’t know if it works for every cake I make or just the one I have… lol

  11. Miss Mediocre

Phill : I haven’t tried out much else! Now that I’m finished Archaeology (more or less) I’m starting to think about quests and other professions and Worgen and Goblins… lol.

  12. Miss Mediocre

Indy : Gratz on finding one of your own! I just wish he could fly so I had an excuse to use him more often :( lol. I’ve enjoyed leveling with Archaeology! It might take a bit longer than questing, but like you said it’s nice to not have to deal with the hundreds of other players trying to kill the same mobs or pick up the same items as you!

I seem to have hit a bit of an Archaeology wall now. I reached 525 but there are still two types of Relic fragments I’ve never found. I’ve been all through Outland and Northrend, and was thinking dig sites would just appear in the Cataclysm zones once I reached 525, but they haven’t. Have you found any dig sites in the new zones?

  13. Rathay

Definitely! Buuut can you wait till I bring my warrior over? :]
He needs the luck, trust me.

  14. Indy

Haven’t gotten up to that yet; I’ve gotten a bit sidetracked from Archeology (or maybe I’ve gotten back to being maintracked? hmm…) One problem with leveling that way is hunter pets don’t get xp from it. They SHOULD, another hunter leveled his pets by herbing recently.

The recent nerf to xp in old content is going to make leveling hunter pets at 85 real painful, until they fix that. (Which they want to do, but they broke it for hunters meantime to herd people into appropriate content.)

  15. Miss Mediocre

Indy : I didn’t know about that. Sounds like a pain! I’d been doing Archaeology with my Paladin, so that wasn’t an issue, but hopefully they fix it soon for all those archaeologist hunters!

  16. Kreigor

I leveled as a kitty, because leveling resto would have made me rip out hair. lol.

Ive been every role in this game now, first a hunter in vanilla, then a warrior tank in BC, then a rogue for WOTLK. Only leveling a Resto Shammy for ICC kept me interested. Im a heala4life now.

And I just got my start on the raptor!! Your good luck rubs off!

  17. Miss Mediocre

Kreigor : I’ve been trying to decide which spec to level as for my druid, so perhaps I’ll go kitty as well! Grats on the raptor! He makes the cutest noises!! :D

  18. Eppi

Hmm… What site is this? :o never been here before….

Oh, and what skill did you have when you got it and what do you think we need as a minimum to get it? :)

  19. Miss Mediocre

Eppi : I don’t believe there is a minimum skill required to find it, if you’re lucky enough you could get it right at skill level 1! I was at 335 when I solved it. :)

  20. Eppi

Hmm… I just found the hatchling :D How rare is it?

  21. Miss Mediocre

Eppi : I don’t think it’s too rare. So far everyone in my guild who has tried their hand at archaeology has managed to find one, BUT they are still very cool even if they are fairly common!
