Rift Platinum Tip – Selling Dye

Posted March 12th, 2011 by Miss Mediocre

Since gold tips were such a big part of the posting I did about World of Warcraft, I thought I’d try to incorporate some Rift platinum tips into some of my new posts! I’ve got 20 platinum now, which is not bad for a level 20 who has just been flipping Artifacts in the auction house. Just recently though I found a new way to make some Rift gold by selling armor dye.

There was a dye vendor located in Sanctum, but because of a mess up with the dye prices, they pulled her out after the last patch. At first I was distraught, having gotten used to dyeing almost all the new armor I come across, but luckily the dye vendor isn’t the only way to get dye! Apothecaries can make 5 colors of dye that the dye vendor doesn’t have. Up until recently, the first few you learn as you level the profession were very cheap in the AH, usually priced at under a gold, but since the disappearance of the dye vendor, even the very first dye you can make (Cyan) is selling like crazy priced as high as 50g!

The dye that apothecaries can make is Cyan, Seafoam Green and Magenta (light and dark of each). They can also buy patterns for Black and White dye at the top of their profession. Even if you only level the profession until you get to Cyan, it only takes a coastal glory and rotting canine to make, which is a nice profit if you sell them for 50g each! If your AH hasn’t been cleaned out yet, and there are still under priced dye listed, you could buy them up and flip them before the dye vendors return.

Starting out in a new game with no money can be rough, so hopefully this can help fill up some of those fresh new coin purses!

Edit : The Dye Vendor is already back in Sanctum, they sure fixed that quick! You can still sell the craftable dye for decent profits though, as they are different from the ones the Dye Vendor sells!

Awesome tip! I’ll have to pick up Apothocar…ianism? on my alt who’s struggling after giving all her gold to my OTHER alt to get a mount. -flux

The Scholar profession in LOTRO makes dyes, which can also make some coin on the AH there.

another good way ive been making pretty good platinum that u can do from a low lvl…is runebreaking all my items and selling the runeforging mats on the AH…it works even better when u add in a crafting prof like outfitting, make mass leather/burlap boots break em down into dust n whatnot; a stack (50) of dust on my shard goes for a platinum and a 1/2 and the lol…easy to do/get

fluxdada : Hehe, hopefully it can help fund your mounts! It gets expensive when you have six characters who all want a horsey :S but dye and artifact sales are helping me for sure!

Indy : I am loving the armor dye, it sucks that WoW never got around to adding something like that.

DeMeNtEd : Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t attempted runeforging yet, but will definitely grab it on one of my characters! The more ways to bring in the plat, the better! :D

Reminds me of when I was a grandmaster tailor in Star Wars: Galaxies. Yeah while everyone else was out trying to figure out how to be a jedi, I was sitting in my humble tailoring shop dyeing cloaks and gear black and purple. Lol!

Why do black and purple always sell the best regardless of the game?

runeforging is alright lol its kinda like enchating in WoW…u make these lil runes (obviously) and they add stats like str, dex, spell power, etc, not too shabby lol…i havent had luck selling the runes themselves but that may be because ppl arent really looking for them yet…im sure they’ll eventually catch on at higher lvls…

Cold : Bet those other jedi were jealous of the diamond studded lightsaber you could afford though! :)

The best I can figure is all people either want to be epic looking (purple) or evil looking (black), lol.

Just a note to say that I’m so glad you’ve moved to Rift and can blog about it! I also moved from WoW to Rift, only for the opposite reasons. -I had only been playing WoW for 9 months, and was still loving every minute of it – but my best WoW/rl friends had been in WoW since vanilla and were looking for the next thing. They moved to Rift so I grudgingly did too, and don’t regret a minute of it. Thanks for sharing your Rift tidbits!

I want to try playing Rift, but currently dont have the income to pick it up. And sadly all my RL friends are die hard WoW addicts and spit on the idea of another mmo. Which means no free trial D:

Emily : I’m glad to hear as someone who wasn’t actually looking for a WoW replacement, that you still really enjoy it! I’d been wondering what Rift would be like for players who weren’t just WoW burnouts! :)

Deadfajita : I’m sure Rift will come out with an actual “free trial” soon! I think that may be what a lot of WoWers are waiting for. I still love WoW, I just love Rift too now, lol.
