I couldn’t think of a good niche gold making strategy that was worth posting about when I first read the topic for Markco’s October Gold Blogging Carnival, but then I remembered the “Love Is In The Air” events from earlier this year! I had just come back to WoW after a 6 month break and was starting out on a new server. I had already finished the Love Is In The Air achievements on my main character the year before, but was still interested in figuring out the changes they had made to how the event worked for this year. I noticed that it had become similar to a few of the other world events in the way that you collect and turn in event specific items for prizes, like with Brewfest Coins and Lunar Festival Coins.
Originally my plan was to just see how much of the holiday achievements I could complete while just going about leveling my brand new Blood Elf Mage who was only level 20. I noticed that the Lovely Charms that had a chance of dropping off almost any mobs were BoP items, but the Lovely Charm Bracelets you created out of 10 of them were not. The only thing you needed to collect the charms was a Lovely Charm Collector’s Kit, which was given out for free in any of the major cites after accepting the holiday quest to make a Charm Bracelet for your race leader. At first I thought these Charm Bracelets were just vanity items that were also a daily turn in for one quest, but then I noticed that you could trade them in for Love Tokens.
About 100 Love Tokens are required to complete the holiday achievement, and suddenly my focus changed from leveling my new character and maybe getting some achievement points along the way, to making gold on my new server from the event! I took advantage of the buff perfumes and colognes that were purchasable from the holiday vendors by buying a few stacks and sending one to my new level 1 rogue. I ran her to Silvermoon City, accepted the quest “A Gift For The Regent Lord of Quel’Thalas“, which provided me with the Lovely Charm Collector’s Kit, put on some “VICTORY” Perfume (+75 Attack Power), and hearthed back to the starting zone. I then went crazy killing every Mana Wyrm I could target as fast as I possibly could. I did this because the Lovely Charms only dropped off mobs which yielded experience, and I figured I could kill way more level 1 mobs in an hour with a buffed up baby rogue than I could kill higher level mobs with my level 20 main. I would level my rogue from 1 to 6 on the Mana Wyrms, which would get me between 11 and 13 Lovely Charm Bracelets. I would then run to the mailbox in Farstrider Square and send the bracelets to my main. The whole process took about 30 minutes, then I would delete my level 6 rogue, make a new level 1 rogue, and do it all over again. I would then sell the bracelets in the Auction House for about 25g a piece.
Near the end of the Holiday the amount of Lovely Charm Bracelets in the Auction House had increased and the demand for them dropped off, but I had managed to accumulate 10,000g in only a few days on a server I hadn’t even been playing on for 2 weeks yet. Without a doubt the Lovely Charm Bracelets are my choice for favorite niche market item, and I can’t wait to take advantage of this Holiday again next year!
