MM’s Guide To Hallow’s End

Posted October 19th, 2010 by Miss Mediocre

It’s that time of year again, when all the little WoW players put on their flimsy masks, visit candy buckets all over the world and eat so many Tricky Treats they vomit! Oh Hallow’s End, what a great holiday!

This holiday has changed significantly and this guide is now outdated! Please check out Wowhead’s guide to Hallow’s End 2013 instead!

I finished Hallowed Be Thy Name last year on my main, but I thought I would write a quick post for anyone who has yet to complete or attempt it! As long as you are at least level 78, it can be finished without much difficulty during the two weeks the event lasts (with a little luck anyway).

Hallowed Be Thy Name is made up of 11 achievements (13 technically as one achievement is actually made up of 3 other achievements). The most important thing about this holiday is to remember to go Trick-or-Treating at every chance you get! Two of the achievements require the items you get from the Treat bags, and you won’t be able to complete them if you aren’t diligent! You can Trick-or-Treat once an hour by talking to any Inn Keeper. They will give you a treat bag, or Trick you and transform you into something Hallow’s Endish. Though it’s fun to bounce around as a black cat for a few seconds, you should be hoping for a Treat bag!

The items you want from the Treat bags are :

Tooth Pick – Use to complete the Achievement That Sparkling Shine
Sinister Squashling – A rare BoP pet that is required for Sinister Calling
Hallowed Helm – A rare BoP helm that is required for Sinister Calling
Hallowed Wand – You cannot use these on yourself, but you can sell the charges or trade charges for the achievement The Masquerade.

What I would recommend doing first is queing for the Headless Horseman with the Dungeon Finder tool. Currently the encounter is bugged causing lots of disconnects and freezing, but I am sure it will be fixed after today’s maintenance! You don’t need a quest to complete the “Bring Me The Head Of . . . Oh Wait” achievement, just be in the instance when he dies. (If you can get a group of 78-80s to take you into the instance while they kill the Horseman, I believe you can finish this achievement and get the title at any level above level 20, which is the level required to enter the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard.)

The Headless Horseman drops 3-6 Weighed Jack-o’-Lanterns, so make sure you grab them if he is yours to loot as you need them for an achievement! You will also get a stack of Tricky Treats, eat as many of these as you can as fast as you can (by clicking them) and after a few your character will spray green vomit and you’ll get the achievement “Out With It”.

For the Achievement “Check You Head” you will need to acquire 10 Weighted Jack-o’-Lanterns. There are three ways to go about this. First you could que for and kill the Headless Horseman until he drops 10 for you. Second you could head on over to the Auction House and purchase them. The third option is to complete the daily quest to extinguish fires in the starting zones set by the Headless Horseman for 4 days (gives 3 a day). For the achievement you must throw a Weighted Jack-o’-Lantern at someone from every race, so be on the lookout for what you need as you go about collecting the other achievements!

As a side note, there is a chance you could get the items for “Sinister Calling” from the Horseman’s Loot Filled Pumpkin, which you receive for killing him once a day, so it is worth killing him daily if you are still missing either!

The next step is to begin visiting Candy Buckets for the achievement “The Tricks and Treats of Azeroth”. My goal with this guide is to help you accomplish as much as possible with the least amount of traveling and time! Note : You may have to change the order in which you visit Candy Buckets if you are missing any Flight Paths!

From here on out it’s a bit different for the Alliance and Horde, so I will go over the best way to finish the achievements separately.

Alliance :

Start at The Exodar, you will find basket #1 in the Seat of the Naru.

Finally, head to major city (Dalaran is usually your best bet) to finish throwing Weighted Jack-o’-Lanterns onto the different race’s heads and start looking for people with costume wands. You will need to be transformed into the following: Bat, Leper Gnome, Pirate, Whisp, Ghost, Ninja, and a Skeleton. If you are having trouble finding someone with one of the wands, offer to pay a few gold! As soon as you finish these and get the three items you require from Trick or Treating, you will be “The Hallowed”!

I would have had these achievements finished a year earlier, but I was missing the Sinister Squashling. I didn’t Trick or Treat nearly enough back then, so make sure you remember to visit an Innkeeper once an hour! There is a small chance you will be horribly unlucky and Hallow’s End will pass you by before you can get your hands on the Squashling or the Hallowed Helm, but I do believe if you just keep at it, you efforts will pay off!

I hope this helped those of you still after the Hallowed Be Thy Name achievements! If you have any questions or if you’d like to share your Hallow’s End achievement stories, please be sure and leave me a comment below!

Thanx for Reading!

Hi Miss Mediocre. I just found your blog and I like it. You are selling yourself way short with the mediocre moniker. Anyone who can max level 11 characters, including one of each class, is quite exceptional. I should know, I have 12 level 80s, although I am still working on having one of each class. My druid and priest are only 55 right now, but I am determined to get them to 80 before the expansion. Anyhow, I enjoy reading your articles and am working my way back through your archive. Thanks for contributing to the WoW community.

QuietKjun : :D That’s nice of you to say! I do know that I have more gaming skills than some, but I also know there are some gamers out there who would make me look like a complete noob, lol. Regarding most things, I usually find myself right in the middle! I wish you luck leveling your druid and priest! It’s slow going with my warlock, she’s still sitting at 51 after 2 months, but I keep telling myself once I reach Outland I’m basically 80! Hehe. Thank you for leaving me a comment and I hope you enjoy my older posts!
