Dear Great-father Winter…

Friday, December 24th, 2010

Dear Great-father Winter,

First, I would like to thank you for all the wonderful gifts you left for me last year underneath the big tree in Ironforge. I especially liked the Tiny Reindeer pet which I sold for hundreds of gold in the spring! I would like to point out that despite having a character named Naughtykitty, I have been a very good girl this year! I’ve helped out many a character in need, handing out Netherweave bags to the poor, and healing even the grumpiest of toons, without much thanks at all. I’m certain I’ve made it onto your “Nice List” this year, and so I would like to include my Winter Veil Wish List for your consideration…

I would love some sweet epics to help with my deeps, and a case full of red bull to keep me from sleep.
I really like pets, and though you may think I’ve enough, I’d like just 50 or so more if that’s not too tough.
I’m getting close to 100 mounts, and you could bring me the rest! A Crimson Death Charger really would be the best!
I’ve needed a new headset for what seems like years, preferably one that doesn’t pinch my pointed ears!
If I asked for a webcam would I seem like a hog? It’s just that I’d really like to start doing a video blog!
And it might be too tough, but one final thing! Kick Varian out of Stormwind and make Bolvar the king!

I’ll leave you out some Ice Cold Milk and Gingerbread Cookies as usual, along with some Crystalsong Carrots for Metzen the Reindeer!

Happy Holidays,
Miss Mediocre

No Girls Allowed! WtF?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I’ve been considering whether or not I should post about this, and have ultimately decided that I believe it to be something I need to share. I love blogging and have big dreams for my little site here, and a big part of someday reaching those dreams is communicating with fellow bloggers and getting links to my site so people actually find me out there in the big interwebs! I enjoy making friends in the blogging community and finding new content to read, while at the same time encouraging others to read what I post.

A problem I did not anticipate is the fact that I am indeed female.

Us Gamer Girls take a fair bit of abuse already simply because we’re female. It’s something one can easily adapt to and ignore, but I doubt many male bloggers have received crude and disgusting sexual comments on their posts (all of which are quickly removed from my site, but are still unpleasant). It’s also a bit more risky for us to “hop on vent” or talk on our headsets while playing CoD without having to endure the ridiculous wrath of some hormonal pre-teen who knows far too many swears. That’s not what this post is about however, but I just wanted to point out that being a female gamer has enough unique challenges already!

Being excluded because I’m female isn’t something I’ve run into since my public school club house days however.

I actually read all the Blogs I include in my Blogroll, and so when one of those Bloggers posted about updating their Blogroll, I read the post and scanned through the updated list for any Blogs I didn’t already recognize. I was a bit confused to notice that I had actually been removed from the updated list. I had been a bit put-off by this Blogger recently because of a few things they’d posted which seemed a bit scamish to me, but I’d kept that totally to myself. The only reason I could think of to merit being kicked from the Blogroll was that I’d removed one comment they’d left on my latest JMTC Blog Carnival entry because they’d just copy and pasted the same comment onto every site that had participated in the carnival, linking to one of his posts and I believe a comment should consist of more than just pressing “ctrl v”.  It wasn’t a big deal, I was a bit irked, but I just removed his Blog from my Blogroll and moved on.

But today I got an e-mail.

The Blogger explained that he had two reasons for removing me from his Blog list. The first was that, “You have been deviating from gold making topics”. Of course anyone who reads my blog is well aware that gold making tips make up only a very small portion of my posts, and I have never claimed that this was a “gold blog”. I’m a girl who games, and that is what this blog has always been about.

I could hardly believe the second reason this Blogger gave me for removing me from their list, which was, “your site is obviously ran by a female”. He mentioned that his girlfriend didn’t like him communicating with other women online, which seems a little crazy to me. Does that mean he’s going to remove every comment that is obviously left by a female on his site? He’s also hosting a January Blogging Carnival, so will any obviously female writers be excluded from that as well? I doubt it, as comments and content from females will have some benefit for his site, where as linking to a girl’s site does not.

He also said, “Just wanted to say that no hard feelings for removing you off my blogroll” and there really wasn’t, until he shared his flawed reasoning behind it with me. I’m not simply “QQing” or trying to whine about inequality, I just felt that this situation should be something people are aware of. I have noticed there are significantly less female gamers with blogs than male ones, and this has got me thinking a bit in terms of why that might be.

To all my fellow female gamer Bloggers, seriously /fistbump, and keep it up! E-mail me a link to your site ( as I’ll soon be adding a special “Girls Only” section to my blogroll! We have just as much to say as the gamer guys, and other than a few exceptions, people do actually want to read what we post!

My Archaeology Adventures

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

As I have perhaps hinted at since the release of Cataclysm, I am in love with Archaeology! Just yesterday I finally got the “Associate Professor” title, and am already on my way toward the next achievement! I got the Associate Professor title for finding 10 rare relics, so I thought I’d do a quick review of all the rares I’ve discovered so far and rate them out of 10 “shovels” based on how cool I think they are. I’ll add more to the list as I find more.

Highborne Soul Mirror (Night Elf) : I think this one has been my greatest disappointment so far. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if I hadn’t been imagining all the wonderful things this mirror could do before actually seeing what it does. I was thinking that maybe it was an item that you could use to change your hairstyle whenever you wanted, but I was way off. This mirror makes a spectral version of yourself, that stands in one place and spins to face you wherever you move. It won’t interact with you in any way if you try a /emote at it, and fades away after a few seconds.

Druid and Priest Statue Set (Night Elf) : This was another relic I was imagining great things for as I was collecting the fragments, like having a tiny Druid and tiny Priest run around you for a few seconds, perhaps even giving you a Fortitude and Mark of the Wild buff! Even once I’d completed it and read the “Use : Summon a Fountain of Knowledge. (15 Min Cooldown)” I was excited, thinking the Fountain of Knowledge would be some epic thing! What it actually does is shine a beam of light down on you, cooler than, but fairly similar to an Elune Stone. The effect is at least big enough to get people’s attention, but I just think it could have been so much more!

Arrival of the Naaru (Draenei) : Most of the disappointment I had with this relic was my own fault. I’d been playing for hours and misread the name of the relic as Anvil of the Naaru! I thought it would surely be an anvil that you could put down and use wherever you wanted, but alas it was not to be. What this relic actually does is show three tiny Draenei walk up to an A’dal (from Shattrath) figure. Then it all disappears. It happens in only a few seconds, and the only really cool thing about it is how cute the tiny Draenei are.

Kaldorei Wind Chimes (Night Elf) : This is one of the most recent rare relics I found, so I kept my speculation in check as I was collecting the fragments to make it! I am of course a fan of weird vanity items, and l loved the Titanium Seal of Dalaran that was rewarded for fishing all the coins out of the Dalaran Fountain. This relic is similar in that it does an emote when you use it; “Lauriella holds her Kaldorei Wind Chimes to the wind” and actually makes a little wind chime noise, which is great!

Chalice of the Mountain Kings (Dwarven) : To be fair, I haven’t actually found this relic yet myself, but my brother did and so I’ve seen what it does. When it first popped up as something for him to solve, we guessed that it would probably be some kind of never-ending alcohol, but we were way off. It says, “Use : Witness a historic sword dance” and when you use it, four little Dwarven women pop out and start dancing in a circle. It’s adorable and really entertaining!

Wisp Amulet (Night Elf) : For this relic it wasn’t too hard to guess what it might do. It does in fact turn you into a Wisp, which is fun, but it changes your character name to “Wisp” while you’re transformed too! Though I’m sure most people see me bouncing around as a Wisp and just assume I had a wand left over from Hallow’s End, but I still really enjoy this relic! It only lasts for 20 seconds, and the transformation is removed if you do anything other than jump or walk around.

Clockwork Gnome (Dwarven) : I am crazy for pets, so when I saw this guy pop up I was so excited to finish him! He’s a very cute little mechanical gnome companion, and the only complaint I have about him is just that I find him a bit too small. He tends to get lost in short grass and falls into the cracks in the sidewalk. Not really, but he is pretty tiny!

Fossilized Hatchling (Fossil) : This is another pet that I recognized right away and then rushed to solve. Despite the fact that he’s a skeleton, he’s so cute! I call him Baby Fossil Tooth, and can’t help but smile as he scurries along after me when I’m riding around on my Fossilized Raptor mount, lol.

Bones of Transformation (Night Elf) : I had no idea what this relic was going to do as I was collecting the fragments to solve it. I must say I was excited when I read “Use : Endure the transformation for 20 seconds” and quickly used the item! To my surprise it turned me into a big male Naga! I can’t do anything as a Naga other than slither around and bounce, but it changes my name to Naz’Jar Honor Guard, which is pretty cool! It doesn’t provide any underwater bonus like water breathing or an increase to swim speed, which is the only disappointing thing.

Queen Azshara’s Dressing Gown (Night Elf) : I had read the name of this relic when I did my Archaeology guide post, and had been hoping to find it ever since! It finally popped up last night, so I collected the fragments, hoping it was actually something I could wear. Sure enough, it’s a BoA Robe! I was SO excited for the first few minutes, even though it wasn’t quite as pretty as I was hoping, until I noticed it’s only a level 60 BoA! Unfortunately 9/10 of my characters on that server are already at level 80, and the robe doesn’t offer any bonus to experience like my heirloom robe, so I won’t get much use out of it.

Fossilized Raptor (Fossil) : I had been hoping to find the Fossilized Hatchling when this popped up for me to solve. It is a pretty awesome mount, and makes some great sounds, but I only wish he could fly! I realize that would be a bit far-fetched and all, but I just don’t get an opportunity to ride him very often without just looking like I’m showing him off, lol.

Tyrande’s Favorite Doll (Night Elf) : I found this relic last night. The whole time I was collecting fragments for it, I was thinking it was likely a little doll you could set on the ground similar to those you can buy from the Toy Shop in Dalaran. Was I ever surprised when I finished it and realized it was actually an epic BoA level 85 trinket! Needless to say, it’s pretty awesome!

What has been your favorite relic so far??

Winter Veil Achievement Guide

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

It’s so exciting that so many Worgen and Goblin are about to experience their very first Winter Veil! Hopefully Great Father Winter leaves them something extra special under the big Ironforge / Orgrimmar tree! If you’re fretting because you can’t open presents yet, don’t worry! Some years Great Father Winter makes us actually wait until Winter Veil Eve to do so! Also you’ll be able to open gifts depending on how high a level you are, so if there are some you can’t get, that is probably why!

For those of you going after the “Merry Maker” title this holiday season, I’ve put together a little guide to help you finish up all the achievements! You should be able to finish off these achievements this year as long as you are above level 30 to get the appropriate quests and willing to spend a bit of gold if you’re not terribly lucky.

A Frosty Shake / Simply Abominable :

Try to get this done as quick as possible to stay ahead of the crowds! For this achievement you will need a Winter Veil Disguise Kit. You get this in the mail after completing the Stolen Winter Veil Treats quest line which starts near the Winter Veil tree. You head to the mountains in Hillsbrad Foothills to meet up with a Strange Snowman, who will ask you to retrieve the stolen treats from the Abominable Greench. He can be hard to tag when a lot of people are trying to complete this quest, but make yourself a “/tar Abom” macro and make sure you check along the cliff edge to the west of the cave entrance, because occasionally he spawns along there where not many players check! Once you kill him and turn in the quest for the Simply Abominable achievement and you will get the Winter Veil Disguise Kit in the mail. Head to Dalaran and dance with a fellow snowman for the Frosty Shake achievement.

Winter Viel Gourmet :

For this achievement you will have to use the cooking skill to create Gingerbread Cookies, Eggnog and Hot Apple Cider. These recipes can be purchased from the Smokeywood Pastures vendors near the Winter Veil Trees for both Horde and Alliance. I suggest getting this achievement done early as well, as the Small Eggs skyrocket in price as they holiday progresses! To create all three you will need :
Small Egg x 2 (Auction House)
Ice Cold Milk (Inn Keepers)
Holiday Spices x 2 (Holiday Vendors)
Holiday Spirits (Holiday Vendors)
Sparkling Apple Cider (Holiday Vendors)

On Metzen :

For this achievement you just have to complete a quick questline. Alliance can pick up the quest from Wulmort Jinglepocket in Ironforge and the Horde can get the quest from Kaymard Copperpinch in Orgrimmar, both of which are by the Winterveil Trees. The quest is called, “Metzen the Reindeer” and you are sent to find and rescue Metzen who is being held captive in The Searing Gorge for Alliance and Tanaris for the Horde. When you turn in the quest, you will get the achievement along with 5 Preserved Holly, one of which you will need for a later achievement! You’ll also get a package in the mail with 20 Graccu’s Mince Meat Fruitcakes, which you will also need later.

Scrooge :

For this achievement you will need a snowball. You can find them from the holiday vendors, certain Engineers can make them, or you can get one from the Auction House. Then head into the throne room of Ironforge if you’re Alliance and throw it at Muradin Bronzebeard, or head to Thunderbluff if you’re Horde to throw it at Baine Bloodhoof.

‘Tis The Season :

For this achievement you will need to get yourself a set of Red or Green Winter Clothes, which are crafted by tailors, and shouldn’t be too expensive in the Auction House. You will then need a pair of Winter Boots, which are crafted by leather workers and should also be easy to find in the Auction House. To complete your Winter Garb you will have to find a Red or Green Winter Hat. In WotLK these drop from Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus and Jedoga Shadowseeker in Ahn’kahet, but we could see them from some of the new Cataclysm instances this year as well! The hats also have a small chance of dropping off any mob in the game, so if you can’t make it into the instances, be prepared to farm a lot of mobs! Finally you’ll need to eat Graccu’s Mince Meat Fruitcake, which you get in the mail after completing the Metzen the Reindeer quest.

Let It Snow :

For this achievement you will need 10 “Handful of Snowflakes”. You get these by doing the /kiss emote at a Winter Reliever once an hour. They are not BoP, so you can collect them on your alts to give to the character that is going after the achievement. You should also collect 8 mistletoe for Alliance or 3 mistletoe for Horde the same way for a later achievement. I’d suggest heading to Dalaran to get all of your opposite faction’s races. You will need to throw the “Handful of Snowflakes” at the following Race/Class combos :
Orc Deathknight, Tauren Shaman, Undead Rogue, Gnome Mage, Blood Elf Warlock, Human Warrior, Night Elf Driud, Troll Hunter, Dwarf Paladin, Draenei Priest.

Fa-La-La-La-Ogri-La :

For this achievement you will need one of your Preserved Holly from the Metzen the Reindeer quest. Fly out to Ogril’la in Blades Edge Mountains in Outland at (27,52), just west of Sylvanaar. If you’ve already completed the questlines here, just accept the “Bomb Them Again” quest from Sky Sargent Vanderlip and use your Preserved Holly before turning it in. If you have never quested here, follow these steps to open up the daily quest!

1. Speak to Chu’a’lor in Ogril’la and get the quest called The Crystals. The 5 Apex Shards needed can drop from any creature in the area, but you can also find clickable shard clusters around the flayers. Gather 5 of these shard, plus an extra 10 that you will need for the next quest, then turn it in.
2. Accept the quest called “Our Boy Wants To Be A Skyguard Ranger” from Torkus (who is beside Chu’a’lor). Take the 10 shards you have left over from the previous quest north to (33,39) where you will see a Fel Crystal Forge. Put in the 10 shards to get a Unstable Flask of the Beast. Turn the flask into Torkus and then accept the quest that opens up from Chu’a’lor called “The Skyguard Outpost”.
3. Turn this into Sky Commander Keller just a little ways north of Orgri’la, and you should see a quest become available from Sky Sargent Vanderlip called Bombing Run. Take the Skyguard bombs provided and fly to either the northern or southern Forge Camps and drop the bombs on the red arrows. Watch out for the cannons by keeping in motion, otherwise they will damage and dismount you.
4. When you complete this quest and turn it in, then “Bomb Them Again” will open up. Do the same thing for this quest, but make sure you use your holly on your mount before you turn it in, otherwise you’ll have to do it again the next day!

Bros Before Ho Ho Ho’s :

For this achievement you will need the 8 mistletoe if you’re Alliance or 3 mistletoe if you’re Horde. I mentioned collecting these earlier by doing the /kiss emote at a Winter Reliever. You use the mistletoe on the following “brother” NPCs for the achievement.
Alliance :
Brother Kristoff in the Stormwind Cathedral
Brother Joshua in the Stormwind Cathedral
Brother Cassius in the Stormwind Cathedral
Brother Benjamin in the Stormwind Cathedral
Brother Crowley in the basement of the Stormwind Cathedral
Brother Wilhelm behind the Blacksmith in Goldshire
Brother Nimetz at the Rebel Camp in Northern Stranglethorn Vale
Brother Karman located next to the training dummies in Theramore

Horde :
Brother Malach in the War Quarter of the Undercity
Brother Keltan on the Orgrim’s Hammer in Icecrown
Durkot Wolfbrother in the stables in Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra

With A Little Helper From My Friends :

For the With A Little Helper achievement you must get 50 honor kills while disguised as a Little Helper. You will find the Winter Wondervolt machine by the flight master in Stormwind or by the zeppelin towers in Undercity and stepping into them changes you into a Winter Helper. Then head into some Battle Grounds and get yourself some honor kills! This can be difficult because when you die, you lose the costume, so be prepared to que for a few!

He Knows If You’ve Been Naughty :

You get the He Knows If You’ve Been Naughty achievement just for opening a Winter Veil present.

I wish you all a very merry and loot filled Winter Veil, and hope that this helps some of you get those Achievements done for the Merry Maker title!

Thanks for Reading!

My Fossilized Raptor Mount

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I know I already posted today, twice in fact, but I wanted to share this! I was super lucky (perhaps due to my Lucky Cake?) and got the Fossilized Raptor Mount from Archaeology! It’s a rare and random relic that comes up for you to solve under the “Fossils” section, and takes 100 fossil fragments to solve. It took me a long time to find all the fragments, as the fossils dig sites are fairly rare (on the Eastern Kingdoms anyway).

I also got the “I Had It In My Hand” achievement for solving a rare relic, which rewards the title “Assistant Professor” and got to level 82 at the same time! It was magical, lol. Now to get the Fossillized Raptor Hatchling…

Whatever Wednesday – My Lucky Cake

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I’m writing my Whatever Wednesday post on Sunday, hehe. That may be cheating, but I won’t post it until Wednesday, and I’m thinking I’ll be pretty busy with Cataclysm then, and even taking the time to hit the “post” button will greatly intrude on my Cataclysm adventures!

There are of course a lot of items in the World of Warcraft, from armor to weapons to food to vanity items. What I am wondering is, how many of you have a specific lucky item?

The reason I’m wondering this is because for years now I have been carrying around my own lucky Delicious Chocolate Cake. No doubt it is way past it’s expiry date by now, but that’s okay because I don’t ever intend on eating it! You are probably wondering, wth? So I’ll explain!

Sometime in the beginning of the Burning Crusade the Cooking Dailies  were introduced. There was a small chance of getting a few uncommon and rare cooking recipes, and I’d managed to collect them all except for the Recipe: Delicious Chocolate Cake. I’ve always been a bit of a completionist when it comes to WoW, and so I tried every day for months in hopes of getting the last recipe I needed to complete my collection.

I was in an active guild back then, and would usually do the dailies with someone else. A certain player had been doing them with me for a couple weeks, and one day before turning in the quest I turned to him and said, “If today is finally the day I get the recipe, I’m going to make Delicious Chocolate Cakes for everyone!”

Sure enough, I got the recipe! Thankfully the mats for the cakes were all vendor items except for Mageroyal and Small Eggs, which were still pretty inexpensive in those days! As promised, I made 10 Delicious Chocolate Cakes, and handed them out to my guild mates before our next raid so they could all have the “Very Happy” buff.

I hadn’t realized that I was one of the 10 players in the group, and that there was still one last cake tucked into my backpack. We were running Karazhan back then, and that night I got myself Light’s Justice (a healing mace) and both of my tier pieces, including my helm from Prince, who we’d never been able to kill before. It certainly was my lucky night, and before I logged off I noticed the left over cake still in my bag. I decided right then that I would keep the cake in my inventory forever, because it was obviously lucky!

Since then, my Delicious Chocolate Cake has brought me some serious luck! I got Mojo the frog pet from Zul’Aman with my first Hex Stick on the very first day Zul’Aman opened. I fished up Mr. Pinchy in under an hour of fishing in Skettis, and he gifted me a Magical Crawdad right away (which is another pet). I am always rolling 100s and winning the loot I want, falling off cliffs and surviving with just 1 hit point, and lots of other things that could just be chance, but I attribute them to my trusty lucky cake! I’ve even lent it out to a very few  special people who have needed a bit of luck when they were farming for something, or running a raid in hopes of getting a specific item. Most of the time the lucky cake works for them too!

I know it’s silly, but I think it’s fun having a lucky item, even if it’s maybe only lucky in my head, lol. If any of you have a random lucky item you like to keep with you at all times, leave a comment and tell me about it! I hope I’m not the only one, lol.

As an after note, it did let me down for the fishing relm first, but I forgive it, lol.

Making Money With Archeology

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

This will be a short post, as I am still busy playing my first day of the expansion, but I wanted to point something out about Archeology that I just figured out!

I’ve been playing around with Archeology for a few hours, and I found that once I reached a skill level of 100, I didn’t get points for finding fragments anymore, I’d only get them for solving. I also had noticed a few uncommon items that I’d looted while finding the fragments. These were :

Troll Tablet
Highborn Scroll
Dwarven Rune Scroll
Draenei Tome
Orc Blood Text

These items can be added to certain relics to reduce the cost of fragments to complete them, and guess what? They aren’t soulbound! They are a pretty rare find, but if you’re just toying with Archeology right now anyway, and are more interested in making gold, you could throw them in the Auction House for pretty much any price you want! There were none in my Auction House yet, as I don’t think many people have realized they are sellable, or even that they exist!

Relm First Archeology is already finished on my server, but getting 200 points (100-300) just from solving relics takes a long time, and these scroll items will really cut down on the time for anyone who doesn’t enjoy flying around to dig sites.

I realize this won’t help everyone make some extra gold, but if you’re like me and have been playing around with the new profession a bit anyway, but not seriously, why not sell these to players who’d rather fork out the gold than go and find them themselves?

Happy Digging!

Hanboks and Danguis!

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

If you are lucky enough to have access to a druid character, having them camped out in Moonglade can be quite profitable. As I’m sure you’ve heard, there are limited quality patterns sold by Lorelae Wintersong in Moonglade (Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod, Pattern: Felcloth Pants, Formula: Enchant Cloak – Superior Defense) that can fetch some good money in the Auction House. Something that I haven’t noticed mentioned anywhere else is the Red Traditional Hanbok. It is a non-binding white quality dress sold by Geenia Sunshadow in Moonglade for about 2g. The respawn rate on the dress seems to be a few days at least (from what I can tell) and because of it’s rarity, can fetch some decent gold! I’ve managed to get 2 of them myself this month, just by logging onto my druid once a day to check for it. I’ve been attempting to sell them for 800g, but will probably end up selling them for around 200g, which is still a great profit!

Now, I’m not suggesting you camp a character in Moonglade for the sole purpose of obtaining this dress or anything, but if you have a character there anyway (as a lot of us do) then by all means stop by and check for it! The best part about making it part of your daily routine to check for this dress, is that the more often you check, the higher your chances are of getting your hands on a Formal Dangui!

The Formal Dangui is sold by Geenia Sunshadow for 50g and is possibly the rarest limited quantity vendor item in the whole game! It has even been seen for as much as 45,000g on some servers! It’s a dress that is similar to the Hanbok, but the respawn on it is estimated to be as long as 2 months. You may be wondering why anyone would want a dress, with no stats, for that much gold, but people pay crazy prices for vanity items that somehow distinguish them from everyone else. I remember paying 500g back in Vanilla WoW for one of those Elegant Dresses (from Easter Eggs) when 500g was all I had, just because it was really rare and pink and pretty, lol. Personally, I think it’d be awesome to have my bank alt prancing around in the rarest dress in the game! Never again would I have to worry about showing up at a party wearing the same thing as someone else! (If my bank alt attended parties anyway…)

You could also add both of these items to your snatch list, if you enjoy flipping such things!

Happy Dress Hunting!

New Chests in Northrend!

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

I’d always found it disappointing that there were no random chests scattered across the frozen tundra of the north, but it appears that The Shattering touched good old Northrend in a rather positive way! Personally I’ve only come across three, but they were all this evening, so I don’t think they are too uncommon! My first chest was in Grizzly Hills behind the Shade of Arugal and it contained rare legs, my second chest was in Zul’Drak and contained a Book of Glyph Mastery and my third was in Zul’Drak and contained a rare staff, so they can have some pretty decent loot!

This change could also effect those of us who are big on flipping items! If some Northrend rares that were rather uncommon are now found commonly from Northrend chests, they could see a significant drop in price! I’ll update my treasure chest list as I figure out the names of others, but so far I’ve found :

Silken Treasure Chest

Sturdy Treasure Chest

So remember to keep your eyes peeled while you’re off questing in the snow! If the things I’ve found so far sell, that’s an extra 300g in my pocket! Good luck!

Death By Elements

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Did anyone else experience those pre-Cataclysm events today!? I’d been a bit busy this weekend yelling at my television as I learned the new CoD Black Ops levels, and hadn’t been on WoW much, but I logged on today to check auctions and re-post things that hadn’t sold in my absence. The first thing I noticed when logging on was some lag, and as I looked around I realized where it was coming from. I should have taken a screenshot, but I was a bit confused and unfortunately didn’t think to do so, but from the Auction House to the arch leading out of Stormwind was filled with mammoths! I’ve never seen so many mammoths in one place before, lol.

After a few bewildered seconds of wondering what everyone was doing and why people were asking for raid invites in trade chat, the event started. I noticed at the top of my screen it said something about sandbags required. I then noticed some sandbags with green arrows over them by the arch on my way out of Stormwind, so I grabbed one and ran back into the city. I found some red arrows by the docks, and dropped my sandbag there. I then headed back for another.

I was in the Cathedral district when the last of the sandbags were placed and the next phase of the event started. Rifts opened up in each of the districts of Stormwind, spawning elite elementals. I figured they’d be wimpy and attacked one on my own, only to end up in the graveyard out in Goldshire a few seconds later. Turns out I was wearing my level 60 Soulforge armor, lol, oops. I ghost-ran back to my body, and rezed a few others who had also met a similar fate before joining in the battle (now wearing level appropriate gear).

We killed all the elementals in the Cathedral district before joining up with the rest of Stormwind and heading to the Docks to fight off the remaining elementals. I was getting some pretty ridiculous lag, and was more or less useless, but the hundreds of other players took care of things, lol.

Once all the elementals were dead, I noticed people asking for groups in trade for the “special bosses”. I figured they’d be in the dungeon que if there were special Cataclysm event bosses, and sure enough, there were four of them; Kai’ju Gaz’rilla, Crown Princess Theradras, Grand Ambassador Flamelash, and Prince Sarsarun.

I qued for Grand Ambassador Flamelash first (because that was first on the list) and had a group in a little over a minute. At first I was surprised to see myself in Blackrock Depths, and then recognized Grand Ambassador Flamelash, formerly known as just Ambassador Flamelash, a boss from BRD. I then recognized the names of two of the other “special” bosses. Crown Princess Theradras is Princess from Mauradon. Kai’ju Gaz’rilla is Gaz’rilla from Zul Farrak. I’m not sure about Prince Sarsarun because I never got to see him.

I made the mistake of amusing each of the bosses would be available basically until Cataclysm got here. I did Grand Ambassador Flamelash twice, Crown Princess Theradras twice and then Kai’jun Gaz’rilla once before I could no longer que for any of them. At first I thought perhaps it was a bug, or maybe I could only kill so many a day, but none of my other characters could que for them either. I found out that you can only que for the bosses after the elemental invasions are stopped by your faction and only for a limited amount of time.

The bosses drop ilevel 251 gear and you get a quest for killing each of them from someone near the boss. Apparently the events happen once every 2-3 hours, but I haven’t seen another one yet, though I did get distracted playing more CoD, lol. I’m going to check back on now and see if the events are starting up again now, and you all should too! They have loot lists up on wowhead already, so you can decide what you want and from who as you only have a limited time to try for it!
