The Sims 3 – Late Night

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Due to be released this fall, the next expansion for the Sims 3 will give your sims a new downtown area to hang out in (just like in the Sims 2 Night Life). Of course Night Life contained one of my favorite things about Sims 2, the VAMPIRES, and as far as I can tell there will be vampires in the Sims 3 Late Night! Also your sims can try and get into exclusive clubs, preform, or work as bartenders!

Hopefully this comes out before Blizz releases Cataclysm, lol otherwise I dunno when I’ll get the chance to try it!

How Can I Achieve My Ambitions When I Have To Deal With This Stuff!?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I do love the Sims, but occasionally when things bug out, I get very irritated with it! Usually I can figure out a way around the problem, like Gunther Goth’s feet being stuck in the ground so he was unable to move! I just used the “moveObjects on” and adjusted where he was standing so he could go home and not die, lol. Or yesterday I switched my “active household” because I play between 4 of them in my town. I guess there was one of the city hall celebrations going on when I made the switch though because suddenly EVERYONE in my town was stuck at City Hall, except for the ones in my Active Household. Eventually I had to bulldoze City Hall to make everyone go home before they died of hunger and exhaustion after standing there cheering for 4 days. Then, there’s not an appropriate lot size that fits the City Hall building, so in order to get it back where it was, I had to put it on an angle, which was slightly disappointing. This was like a 2 hour process, so although I worked though it, that was 2 hours I could have been playing my Sims!

They just wouldn't go home!

Very Stealthy...

My most recent issue that I have not been able to remedy is with my Investigator. Somewhere between switching households and active families, I lost my magnifying glass! Without it, I am unable to solve most of my cases, but I can find no way of getting a new one without quitting the profession, rejoining it, and hoping I’ll get a new one when I once again reach the appropriate rank. I’m already at rank 7 though, so I really really don’t want to have to do that!

Also, weren’t you supposed to be able to be a Tattoo Artist? I have not been able to find out how to actually do that yet! I know you can buy the chair and “Offer Tattoo” to people you invite over, but you don’t get any Tattooing Points to build up and you can’t register as a Tattoo Artist at City Hall. Maybe you can’t actually do it as a career, but I thought the preview for the game made it LOOK like you could, lol.

If any else has come across these issues but resolved them, or if you know how to become a tattoo artist, could you please leave me a comment and let me know! I’ve looked everywhere, but maybe the game is too new still and others haven’t encountered these issues yet, lol.

Fashion Phenomenon – Sims 3 Ambitions

Monday, June 7th, 2010

I have been playing the Sims 3 Ambitions like crazy the past few days! I finished the architecture profession first, which I blogged about previously, and have since finished the Stylist, Sculpting and Inventing professions (all with one family!).

I was really excited when I realized the stylist’s job was just to pick out clothing, hair and makeup like in the Create-A-Sim mode! I always spend WAY too long deciding on just the right look for my Sims, so in the beginning I was really enjoying myself with this profession!

How to Style People

It was similar to the architecture profession in that you get a few jobs (3-5 I believe) each day that you are “on the clock”, but you can solicit your friends and neighbors for additional jobs during your time off. Whenever you receive a job, you just click on the little prompt that comes up to start it, then your Stylist will head on over to the client’s house where you can “Offer Makeover” to complete it! You can also try to invite them over to your house to do the makeover there if you have the makeover station with the upgraded “Look Good” mirrors, because that can help your score a bit.

Failing Makeovers

Just like with the architecture profession, at first it didn’t matter how much time and effort I put into people’s outfits, I would always get the “You did a good job, but maybe this Sim was just too picky” explanation and I would take a major dive in friendship with that person. It was ridiculous, I was running around styling people, and having to apologize to them afterward because 90% of the time they’d hate what I’d done, or some of what I’d done wouldn’t count toward the objective, which was aggravating. So by the time I had reached the rank of 10 – Fashion Phenomenon – my portfolio was only like 15% completed, because you are only prompted to take a picture when you please a client.

It does seem like how good a job you do isn’t actually based on anything you do. It mostly has to do with the size of your portfolio and how high you are in the profession. Now that my portfolio is at 40% and I have already received the Key To The City (the ceremony for which I missed because my Sim was having a baby at that exact moment! lol) it doesn’t matter what crap I throw on my Sim clientele, they always think it looks hot, lol.

Offer Fashion Advice

There is an option you get at about the level 5 of the career to “Offer Fashion Advice” but I think that just throws the Sim into some random outfit, and most of the time they hate it, so I try to avoid doing it unless I am just bored or something. It is much more fun to just “Give Bad Makeover” if you don’t care about gaining levels or making the Sim angry.

Once you finish the Stylist career, you get a permanent buff called “Stylin'” which gives you a +20 to mood, and anyone you make-over successfully (which is almost everyone at that level) also receives the buff for a few hours.

Bored Fashion Phenomenon

I will admit that as fun as this profession was in the beginning, I am getting close to quitting it now and just getting one of the original jobs. Styling Sims is really fun, but after the 150th time, I am starting to get a little sick of it! These days my Fashion Phenomenon just sits at home and paints instead of dealing with her clients, though she still receives the 2,306 simoleans in stipends a week, even if she does no styling what-so-ever. (At first I had no idea what a “stipend” was, lol, but it is just basically a periodic pay check)

Unlockable Outfits

As a little bonus for this career, you unlock a couple young adult and adult outfits for your Sims. Here’s the pictures of them!

The last one is my my new FAVORITE! It’s so cute, hehe.

To Style or Not to Style

If you do like to spend a large amount of time in Create-a-Sim, then you should try this profession out! It does get a bit tedious by the end, but then again I did get from Fashion Fledgling to Fashion Phenomenon  in one sitting, so I may have been judging it a bit harshly by the time I’d finished, lol.

I’m a Dictator of Design – Sims 3 Ambitions

Friday, June 4th, 2010

I just reached the top of the architecture profession in The Sims 3 expansion – Ambitions. It is the first profession I tried, because build mode tends to be where I spend most of my time while playing Sims anyway!

Taking Measurements

I was having a hard time getting good reviews from clients when I was first starting out, but it does get easier as you advance! I don’t think I even received a “Great Review” until I was at the 5th level! At about the 4th level your Sim will get a Tape Measure. Now this isn’t something that goes in your inventory somewhere, so don’t waste time trying to find it so you can use it like I did, lol. You use the tape measure by clicking on one of the houses you are renovating and selecting “Take Measurements”. Doing this will result in your client giving your work a better review when you finish.

Discuss Renovation

At about the 7th level, your Architect will get the option to interview their clients before starting the renovations to find out if they have any traits that could help influence your design (ex: If the client is a book worm, you could use lots of book cases to help get a better review). This can be a bit of a pain to do however if the client isn’t actually home when you go to do the renovations. If that ever happened, I’d just forget about the interview. Usually by the time you reach that level, you’ll be getting great reviews every time anyway. There are 10 levels in total to this profession, ending in Dictator of Design.

Getting Great Reviews

Another trick to help improve your reviews is to bring along some paintings, sketches or sculptures you’ve done previously in your family inventory. You can hang these on the walls or set them on tables just like the purchasable art, but the clients always seem to love it if the art is home-made! You can also invite a client over, paint a portrait of them, and then hang that in their home for some major bonus points.

Basically, if you are having trouble with your reviews, just remember to avoid getting things cluttered (like leave SO MUCH SPACE around everything), make sure all the walls and floors are finished, don’t forget about adding some decor (a couple rugs and paintings can go a long way), and try to complete the renovations without spending the whole budget!

Annoying Glitch

If you are rushing through the profession like I was, you may have found the two days off a week annoying. You can actually work from home though, by talking to your friends and convincing them to let you work on their homes at any time. One thing to watch out for however if you are working on your friend’s houses on your days off, is to not get a promotion while you are in the middle of a project. A few times I would finish my last renovation of the day a few minutes after 6pm, so I couldn’t show it to the client. Then if I advanced a level at home, that project I had been working on would no longer be available, and I would not get credit for the work I’d done. It is an avoidable little glitch though, as long as you are aware of it!

Town Hero

Once you have worked your way up to Dictator of Design, you will have two trophies and a key to the city to show for it. You also get a big celebration at City Hall, which the whole town attends, and you get a 4 day buff called “Town Hero”. I did enjoy this profession, but I must admit that my current Sim’s house is one of the saddest I’ve ever lived in! After spending all day building and decorating everyone else’s houses, I didn’t feel up to working on my own, lol.

Never Run Out Of Budget Money

As an after note for any of you cheaters out there, I did find a glitch that basically gives you an endless budget with which to work on your renovations. If you have some sketches and paintings in your family inventory, you can place them in the house you are renovating, which doesn’t cost any budget money. You can then move the object back into your family inventory, which adds the total cost of the item to your budget, as if you were selling something from the house. I did find the budgets to be pretty fair though, but if you want to do something really extravagant, I guess this trick could be useful!

Casa Sima – The Sims 3

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

So my favorite thing to do in the Sims is to build houses! I absolutely love the customization available in the Sims 3 for the building and furnishing components and have spent up to 8 hours just building and furnishing a house! My greatest Sim creation to date is Casa Sima, which I built to resemble Casa Loma in Toronto Ontario. Another thing I love about the Sims 3 is the online community and the opportunity to share your creations with other Sim 3 players! It really makes building such a time consuming sim palace more fun when you can see how many other people liked it! If you would like to download and add my Casa Sima to your game, you can get it on the Sims 3 site here!

I am currently working on a new mansion for a Sims 3 competition I am taking part in. The winner must have the most simoleans, the nicest house, and the most interesting family, all without any cheat codes. I have already been working on this new house for about 7 hours, and haven’t even furnished it yet, so whenever it is finished I will post it on here!

New Sims 3 Expansion – Ambitions

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

So another game that I play from time to time is the Sims 3! When the game was first released I hated how badly it was lacking content, but slowly they are making expansions, and the game is growing on me. I got World Adventures as soon as it was released and enjoyed gallivanting around Egypt and Paris and China, but my interest was beginning to wane once again, so I was glad to see they are about to release the next expansion: The Sims 3 – Ambitions!

Apparently this will be the first Sim game where you can actually control your Sim while they work! Finally! They will be adding lots of new careers, which will be nice seeing as Sims 3 was definitely lacking the amazing career choice available by the time you got through all the expansions for The Sim 2. I am excited about checking out the architecture career, which will let you customize your neighborhood in some way!

Some of the careers available will be:

  • Sculptor
  • Fire Fighter
  • Stylist
  • Inventor
  • Private Investigator
  • Doctor
  • Ghost Hunter
  • Tattoo Artist
  • Architect

The expansion should be hitting stores June 1st 2010, so if you are a forever Sim fan like myself, make sure you start saving up that allowance money!

Here’s the video (notice the awesome Rise Against Sim Song! ^^)
