Gamer Friendly Meals – Recipe #1 : Cheesy Ranch Chicken with Corn on the Cob

One of the first blog posts I ever wrote was a list of my favorite “gaming foods” back in 2008, but that was 2 years ago, and my life has changed a fair bit since then, so I was thinking I’d attempt to post a new easy “gamer friendly” recipe every week! I don’t live at home anymore, so I have had to learn how to fit cooking and eating into my busy gaming schedule, so hopefully these recipes can help those of you still working to get into a gaming/cooking groove!

Gamer Friendly Meals – Recipe #1 : Cheesy Ranch Chicken with Corn on the Cob

So this is one I have been eating a whole lot of this summer! Not only is it SUPER easy, it’s also freaking delicious and corn on the cob has been dirt cheap since it’s in season! I know you are probably reading this thinking, there is no way those two things could be quick and easy enough for a gamer, but I promise you that I make this without ever having to log out of WoW, lol.

First off, make sure you have the following things in your kitchen! If not, go get them! Don’t worry if you hate measuring things, the measurements are just guidelines! It’s hard to mess this one up, lol.

-2 boneless, skinless, defrosted chicken breasts
-2 cobs of corn
-1 tbsp of olive oil
-1/2 cup of three cheese ranch dressing
-1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

-Baking Pan
-Tin Foil
-Wax or Parchment Paper

Step # 1 (takes about 4 minutes) : Pre-heat the oven to 350°f. Line your baking pan with tin foil (makes for next to no clean up!). Pour the olive oil into your baking pan and spread it around (I use a spoon). Place the two chicken breasts in the pan and pour the ranch dressing over them (any creamy dressing will do, but even if you hate ranch dressing like me, you might like this! I also change it up sometimes by using Franks Red Hot Sauce  instead of dressing if I am in the mood for something with more kick!). Now put the pan of chicken in the oven on the middle rack, and leave it for 20 minutes.

Step # 2 (takes about 4 minutes) : I try to do this as the chicken is cooking, but if you get into something in a game, it’s easy to do once you pull the chicken out of the oven as well! Shred yourself enough cheddar cheese to cover your chicken breasts (about 1/4 cup). If you are too lazy to shred, well then cutting off some thin slices works just as well! Now use your wax or parchment paper to wrap up your corn on the cob into separate little packages. If you place the corn on the corner of a square of the paper and roll it, that seems to work best. You then twist the ends to seal it like a piece of candy!

Step # 3 (When the chicken is done) : Now place the shredded cheese on your chicken breasts and put them back in the oven on Broil for 5 minutes. Place your wrapped up mummy corns in the microwave for 3 minutes. (Are you thinking wtf? Corn in the microwave? Hehe, yeah I thought that too, but it cooks in it’s own juice and is so yummy! Trust me!)

Step #4 : EAT & ENJOY! Pouring a bit of the extra cheesy ranch sauce on the corn is kind of amazing, but sometimes it’s nice with just butter and salt as well!

Let me know if you try this and what you think! If you come up with any variations that are delicious make sure you let me know too so I can try them!

Thanks for Reading!

Wow, I’ll have to try this… sounds really good. I love ranch chicken. Mm…

Hm.. I’ll share with you my favorite “dish” to prepare while gaming. It’s really simple, and probably has been seen by quite a few people before.

    Cheesy Frito bowls! Yay!

Ingredients : 1/2 a bag of original Fritos, 1 can of hormel chili, whichever kind you prefer, (I like regular chili with beans) and a handful of shredded cheese. (The bagged kind works well and they’re pretty cheap.)

Step #1: Heat the chili. You can do this in the microwave or on the stove top.. I prefer the microwave because well.. I’m a gamer and the microwave takes about 3 minutes, while the stove top takes more like 5-8 minutes.

Step #2: Pour a half a bag of Fritos into a bowl and pour the hot chili on top of it.

Step #3: Mix it in pretty good with a spoon and then sprinkle a couple handfuls of shredded cheese on top.

Step #4: Regardless of whether you cooked it on the stove top or in the microwave.. throw it in the microwave for another minute or minute and a half depending on your microwave and how hot you like your dish.

GG, meal complete. It’s easy, fast, delicious and cheap. Definitely four of my favorite words.

Rathay : I haven’t heard of this recipe, but it sounds interesting! Any meal that I can make in the microwave with no prep and minimal cleanup gets bonus points from me! I’ll have to give it a try 😀

  3. Miss Mediocre says:

I am making your meal suggestion tonight Rathay! Though I’m making the chili from scratch… because I like making chili, hehe.

  4. Ramund says:

Been trying out both of your meals and they are both incredibly tasty, perfect for my week off when all i wanna do is to spend my time infront off my comp 😉

Btw is it possible to make you post your chili recipe?
Been trying to find a propper one for ages, but just never have i been able to find the right one 😛

  5. Miss Mediocre says:

Ramund : Oh that’s a good idea! Chili is pretty low maintenance cooking, so I’ll add that to the “Gamer Friendly Meals” section! 😀
